Just ask Gladys Wright of Selby Court, Scunthorpe who just celebrated her 106th birthday; she is still a big bingo fan. She plays twice a week at the Westcliff Community Centre and said she has no intention of ever stopping.

"It is strange being 106 and I can't believe it.

"I go to play bingo on a Tuesday and Thursday and I was there on Tuesday."

Mrs Wright said the secret to living a long healthy life was simple.

She said: "It is hard work and good food.

"I have lived an ordinary life, like everybody else.

"I have seen a lot of change over the years and I sat in my window and watched the community centre being built.

"I have been going ever since it opened and I have got a lot of friends there."

Mrs. Wright got married in 1933 and two daughters, Pauline and Margaret. Her daughter Margaret now lives in Pennsylvania in the United States with her family.

Celebrating her birthday with her family in the UK, Mrs. Wright enjoyed it which was organized by staff where she lives.

She said: "It was lovely and you should have seen the spread they put on for me.
"The table was all laid out with food and it was beautiful."

Her daughter Pauline, 68, said she thought it was a big achievement for her mother to reach the age of 106.

She said: "She has always told me her secret IS hard work and good food.

"She has had a hard life and she has lived through two world wars."
