Burglar Elliott Harris raided a Gloucester woman’s home after hearing about her Bingo winnings. The Coney Hill woman had just won £1,000 on bingo and was betrayed by her foster teenage son who tipped her off to Harris.

The lucky circumstance is that she managed to hide her money in the house, although sadly Harris did succeed at stealing around £800 and two gold chains of great sentimental value. His downfall was a can of Coca-Cola which he took whilst raiding the house. He drank some of it leaving it on the garden wall, where it was subsequently found by the police. Harris’ DNA was found on the can along with his fingerprints in the house.

Harris pleaded guilty to burgling the house on August 8 last year and also admitted breaking into a house in Trimscombe Way, Cheltenham, on August 29, where he also stole a small amount of cash and an iPad. He also admitted to breaching an ASBO twice, for associating with the teenager who had tipped him off about his foster mum's Bingo win.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC jailed him for eight months for the Coney Hill burglary, 10 months consecutively for the Cheltenham raid and three months consecutively for the ASBO breaches.
