Players at a Top Ten Bingo in Durham were caught by surprise as three masked men armed with machetes entered the hall.

The robbery is believed to have lasted less than ten minutes. The men began ordering several individuals to lie on the ground before demanding that the assistant manager open safe. Police say that the gang got away with quite a bit of cash.

Malcolm Evans, Manager of Top Ten Bingo, supported the staff after the robbery. He said staff were shaken up following the attack.

The robbery began shortly before closing at 9.40pm. “Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident but it was a frightening experience for those involved. At this stage we don’t know exactly how much money was stolen but believe it was a substantial quantity”, said Detective Inspector Nev Carmen, of Durham Police.

These men were wearing dark clothing as well as masks. At this time no further descriptions have been released nor has the CCTV footage. Anyone that observed suspicious activity or has any information regarding the events is urged to contact Durham police.
