Last year’s UK Bingo Association’s report shows that the number of Bingo halls in the UK is reduced by 50 percent in comparison with its heyday. What seems to be the reason? Apparently hundreds of clubs and bingo firms are now turning to the online industry, designing products for tablets, mobiles and the internet in general.
This classic game has come a long way since its humble beginnings in Italy in 1530, the French aristocracy quickly adopted it in the 17th century and the rest of it is history. Bingo’s popularity persisted to this day, the first website launched in 1996 and the first UK online bingo occurred in 2003. First apps started popping out in 2011 with the first edition launching on smartphones through Wonder Bingo.
We are left wondering what would that renaissance-Italian bingo player say to today’s game being accessed with the magic of technology? Is bingo going to be played exclusively online in the near future? We’ll have to wait and see, but we can claim with certainty, bingo’s popularity stood the test of time and is not showing any signs of slowing down.
