Over the past two years Mecca Bingo has made a concerted effort to raise money for their chosen charity, Marie Curie, via a number of methods. These fundraisers have included conventional activities such as charity bingo games, and unconventional methods such as their charity bike rides, football matches and even sitting in bathtubs full of baked beans.

Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, we’ve always respected the work Mecca Bingo does for charity. The Marie Curie charity are also frequently thanking Rank for their help too, but a recent thank you from a nurse on the ‘frontline’ will mean so much more.

Cath Hudspeth, thanked the staff from Taunton’s Mecca Bingo in an open letter to the This is Somerset website. She said, “As a Marie Curie Nurse, I would like to thank all the staff and customers at Mecca Bingo in Taunton and Bridgwater for their fantastic fundraising efforts recently.”

Her letter outlined the important need for charity work, and how it has helped Marie Curie nurses to care for people with terminal diseases. She explained that people deserve to be cared for in their final days at home, not in hospital.

“The support of Mecca Bingo is enabling us to do this for more people – and they have just confirmed that they are going to support us for a third consecutive year in 2012 which is wonderful news”, she said.

It’s clear that the charity work provided by the Rank group, and their customers is making a difference and it’s good to see nurses and patients will continue to be supported. The group has recently announced a new fundraising campaign in 2012, a campaign in which they hope to raise even more money.
