Michael Hess Revisits Bingo Clubs

One man knew a thing of beauty when he saw it and that man is Michael Hess. He is responsible for writing Bingo And Social Club. This is a book based on bingo clubs around the UK from 2006-2009.

The book explores the activities happening in bingo halls, daily operations and players. If you’re a fan of bingo, this inside look is something to see.

The book includes a variety of photos and it’s been 5 years since they were collected. Bingo clubs have been on the decline around the UK due to many factors including the smoking ban, growing popularity of online bingo and a recent increase in taxes on the game.

Whether for the good or bad of bingo clubs, things have changed over the course of 5 years and one affiliate site requested that Mr. Hess return to where many of his shots were taken as well as a few new clubs to see just how much things have changed.

Hess’ mission was to create a new compilation of photos that captured the culture of land based bingo today. The photos were taken at various clubs around the UK including Palace Bingo, Flutters Bingo, Club Rialto, Strand Bingo, Ritz Bingo, Grand Bingo, North Parade Social Club, Regors Bingo & Social Club and Top Ten Bingo.

It’s amazing how things change yet they remain the same.
