Friday will bring about a new change to an old bingo hall. A Gala Bingo location in the Wokingham will be returned to previous owners and its previous name.

The establishment, opened by Ray Hopkin in 1975, will undergo a name change to Ritz Bingo when the owners, Wokingham Ritz, settle into managing the bingo club again.

The lease has run its course for the current occupiers of the building, Gala Bingo. The decision for Wokingham Ritz to take on the bingo business once more has prevented the loss of jobs and saved 20 jobs.

Robin Keston, the manager in charge of the Ritz club in 1980 until Gala acquired the Ritz franchise, said: “We believe Wokingham can support a viable bingo hall and think it’s a valuable part of the local community.

“I loved my time at Wokingham and just knew we should mount some sort of bid to save the Ritz from being boarded up.”

Ritz Bingo offers bingo session every evening and four afternoons each week.
