The former Moderne Cinema and Gala Bingo club building in Bournemouth was put on the market to be sold. Despite fears that it would be bought and destroyed, it has been transformed into a church and community hub.

The Bournemouth Community Church purchased the property for £1m and reopened the doors as the Life Centre welcoming hundreds of people each week but not without a bit of redecorating. Approximately £1.25m was put into the project to replace the Gala Bingo-esque design and create a new Art Deco-inspired interior.

Bournemouth Community Church now offers Sunday service for a congregation of 600, hosts meetings and social events and even has a community choir.

The main hall was converted into a 1,000 seat venue and will be used as a theatre and concert venue.
Greg Rawlings, operations and events manager, said: “We were looking for a new home for Bournemouth Community Church for such a long time and when this came up, it seemed unbelievable.

“It’s right in the heart of the community which is perfect because, first and foremost, that’s our main audience.
“Now we want to let people know that we are here and what we can offer."
