A young woman won a bingo jackpot of £22,000 and splits the pot with her mum.

Ami Marshall, 25, wanted to share £10,000 of her bingo winnings with mum, Linda Hawes, 48, because “my mum is really special to me”.

The two ladies play bingo regularly at the Empire Theatre and had made a pact to share their wins with each other.

“I never dreamed we’d win this much, especially at bingo”, said Marshall.

“I was so excited. After winning we still had a few games left to play but I couldn’t concentrate on the rest of the games.

“I did have a few tears when it was first announced because I didn’t think you could win that much. For my friends and family it has definitely made bingo fashionable again.”

Marshall and her partner plan to spend the money by adding on to their home making more room for their 3-year-old son. The remaining share will go toward a special Christmas and savings.

“It would be quite easy to spend the lot!” Marshall said.

Paul Paterson, manager at Winners Bingo said, “We are delighted that Miss Marshall won.

“A lot of people don’t realise bingo is played in Wisbech but it is a good day out and we are attracting a lot of younger people to the game.”
