Gala Bingo has teamed up with Fostering Hope, a Midlands based agency that provides support and information to foster carers. They think of new and innovative ways to recruit and attract suitable adults into the fostering sector.

The partnership has began with a one off event where the agency set up a stall in the bingo hall, Gala bingo callers explained key facts throughout the afternoon in a bid to engage with an increasing youthful set of bingo players.

Gala managing Director Simon Wakes said of the initiative: "New bingo halls are aimed at attracting younger people from the ages 18 to 35 who are now coming to play. People aged from 40 to 70 are still the majority so we hope that some of our customers will be able to take away some information and become suitable foster carers.”

The North West of England is currently experiencing a major shortfall in foster carers with an estimated 1,500 extra required to cope with demand. The scheme forms part of an initiative spearheaded by the Blackburn and Darwen council to recruit more carers across 22 other local authorities.

Mr. Wakes added: "Coming to the club is not just about playing bingo. It is a whole leisure experience and if we can give something back to the community in which we stand then we're more than happy to be part of this unique initiative that will help to change children's lives."
