We have seen quite a few stories lately about bingo lovers giving lots of money to good causes, and this latest story caught our eye due to the huge sum involved.

Mecca Bingo Clubs Raises Enormous Cash Sum for Charity

The Mecca bingo clubs are the places in question, and they raised a quite astonishing £287,000 for the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity. This is even more remarkable considering that the original goal was substantially less than this, at a still pretty impressive £200,000.

Over 100 Mecca Bingo halls throughout the UK took part in fund raising drives for the worthy foundation, which gives free care to terminally ill people all across the country. The huge donation is enough to give the people who benefit from Marie Curie homes 14,000 hours of top quality care.

The money was raised in a huge variety of ways; with abseiling, tea parties, cake sales and party nights among the most popular events which helped people have some fun while raising an awful lot of money.

The fantastic fund raising events by Mecca Bingo once again show us the good which can be achieved when bingo players put their minds to it. Let’s hope that this year sees a lot more of these fine initiatives help worthy charities continue to provide their invaluable services.

Other recent bingo / charity links up have seen Gala Bingo honoured at the House of Lords for raising £1.5 million for the Sue Ryder Care charity and Costa Bingo launch a Help for Heroes game which should prove to be highly successful. We await details of the next fund raising games or appeals with interest.
