Accountant at Vital People employment agency, Maria Parsonage, has pleaded guilty to stealing thousands from her employer.Parsonage has had an online bingo addiciton since 2007 and regularly attends Gamblers Anonymous.

Parsonage was trusted to pay herself a wage and in doing so, she took extra cash to pay off her debt and play online bingo. With 5 counts of fraud against her, Parsonage was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work.

Due to her personal financial situation, she was not ordered to pay back any of the money that she had stolen.

The Director of Vital People, Jason Fox, expressed his dissatisfaction with her punishment stating, “What really annoys me is the message being sent out is ‘don’t worry about stealing, you get away with it. But I didn’t want her to go to jail, I don’t think it would have helped her, especially if she has a family. We had a great relationship, she was my most trusted employee apart from my wife, Jenny, and a lovely girl. She just got herself into a mess."
