According to the Daily Record, 73-year-old Jean Murdoch was playing in a national linked bingo game and thought she had won £100 but was quickly informed that she was the winner of a huge Mecca Bingo jackpot.

She was handed a check for £221,000 but the winning spree wasn’t over. She put a pound in a slot game where she won another £300.

Jean, who purchased a new car with her winnings, said: “I wasn’t paying much attention when my numbers came up, so I thought I’d won £100.

“When I was eventually told I’d won the jackpot, I was a wee bit shocked, to say the least. It didn’t sink in and it still hasn’t. It must have been my lucky day.”

She called for the house within 40 numbers for the club jackpot but the really big win came because she called on her “lucky star” for the national prize.

Jean said, “I go to the bingo at least twice a week with friends but, the day I won, I was on my own. The most I’ve ever won over the years is about £500 so all my pals at the bingo are delighted for me.”
