It’s no surprise that UK land based bingo is on the decline and a group of 54 MPs is in support of reducing gambling taxes on bingo.
The Bingo Association would like to see taxes in line with other forms of gambling; however the UK government is hesitant to drop bingo tax since its priority nears the budget deficit. The Bingo Association presses the issue of tax pointing out that bingo clubs are closing monthly due to the tax.
Club closures also lead to job losses and the Bingo Association insists that local bingo clubs bring neighborhoods together.
According to the Independent, Conservative MP Brian Binley said, "I see many people, many of them elderly, who find comfort and friendship - a hot meal at a low price in a warm and happy environment. And if that isn't social services, I don't know what is."
The 54 MPs I support of the tax cut will be visiting bingo clubs in their communities as part of the campaign to reduce tax and rebuild the industry.
