For the past couple of weeks, the increase in bingo tax created a lot of buzz in the world of bingo. It has put a lot of bingo halls to their end when it was supposed to help the bingo industry. After removing the VAT, they doubled the taxes of profits for the bingo industry. This has greatly affected the UK’s high street bingo and a lot weren’t happy about it.
One of the protesters of the imposed high tax includes the Worcester Bingo, specifically its owner, Roger Cooper. Once again, Cooper managed to hit out at the UK government. Now, he brands the government as sexist. Can’t follow? Roger Cooper states that it is indeed a sexist tax because it targets the females as well as the pensioners. The reason being is that most of the bingo players who frequent bingo clubs are the women and pensioners. He has spoken to various Worcester press and has told them how the bingo players and insiders are bummed about this increase in bingo taxes. In fact, they have already signed a petition which includes more than five hundred signatures.
Aside from that, Roger Cooper even came up to their local MP Michael Foster. He has asked him to sign an early day motion in parliament. This will hopefully bring them to consider the effects of this big increase of bingo duty taxes from 15% to a huge 22%.
Aside from Roger Cooper’s actions mentioned above, he managed to hit at the government once more. After analyzing that the tax issue did not affect sports book betting or even online gambling, he knew he had to catch the government’s decision once more. He said that all seems to be a blatant attempt from the UK government, trying to save their own interest, such as the “Tote”. The “Tote” is being sold by the government to a private company.
