The UIGEA witch hunt still goes on

Written by: Nikola Zugic on 25/03/2008 16:00

There is some news going around saying that the US Department of Justice may be taking action on the online gaming powerhouse PartyGaming for the investigations it had conducted before the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

The website OCN has some quote from unnamed sources stating that these investigations had taken place after talks were held between PartyGaming and the US officials. The investigations were conducted based on the company’s pre-UIGEA activities.

Not only PartyGaming, but also many other online bingo games operators and online bingo halls have suffered lots of problems and loss because of the implementation of the UIGEA in late 2006.

It was these problems that led to the withdrawal of UIGEA from the US market. PartyGaming responded to the withdrawal, by diversifying into other markets and in the process, broadening the range of products it offers, including online bingo products.

According to PartyGaming CEO Mitch Garber, though UIGEA had caused a blow to PartyGaming business, the company had managed to recover from this incident. Today, PartyGaming is no longer only a poker led, US dependant and one language gaming operator. It is today a leading multi-lingual and multi-currency non-US company.
