The latest fitness program in Firstenburg Community Center has created a new spin with bingo where instead of waiting idly for numbers; players punch their cards by exercising, eating right and learning about healthy lifestyles.
The name of the game is the Fitness Bingo Challenge that started in January helps players make the most of New Year’s resolutions.
There is a $25 fee with 12 modified bingo cards allotted one a week. These cards follow the traditional bingo format with five rows and columns with a free square in the middle.
The difference here is that instead of waiting for numbers being called, players mark off boxes on completing the listed activities.
These activities range from strenuous activities like running and walking 2 miles to sedentary articles like reading. The other boxes in the card are filled with food related goals like eating two fruits and 3 vegetables.
You have to fill the card in vertical, diagonal and horizontal rows or try and black out the entire card. Those filling a row or two or the whole card earn prizes which could be a yoga mat, fitness ball or a gift certificate to a movie theater.
With people making New Year resolutions, this game is expected to be a great bang.
Registration for the game ends on Jan. 15 and the 12 week contest starts the next week. It is not necessary to be a member of Firstenburg to participate, but a gym membership is helpful.
