Bristol Bingo Hall in the brink of closure

Written by: Nikola Zugic on 14/06/2009 19:00

With the rising bingo taxes, smoking ban, and the recession hitting the economy hard, it’s not surprising to learn that more and more bingo halls continue to fear closure. There are a handful of bingo halls across the UK that was deeply affected by the circumstances that are leading them to face closure. While there were already a lot of bingo halls that have closed over the past few months, a lot are still facing the scare day by day. One bingo hall in Bristol could be the next, which will then result to about thirty jobs lost. Let’s take a look at Bristol Bingo Hall’s dilemma.

The Riva Bingo Club in Bristol, at the Broadwalk Shopping Centre in Knowle isn’t making enough money to sustain itself. In fact, the staff were already warned that unless the bingo hall’s performance improve, they can pretty much expect that the hall would close soon, leaving them jobless too. If they couldn’t find a way to help the bingo club be more profitable, they hall will be shut down soon.

They are about halfway through the one month consultation process and are deciding on what will happen to the bingo club. For almost 15 years, Riva Bingo was doing pretty well until the unfortunate circumstances started happening one by one. It opened in the year 1995 and back then, Riva Bingo was able to attract around two thousand customers each week. Now that’s certainly different than today. Riva Bingo seems to be not making any profit for it to survive. But aside from taking into consideration their company and their staff, other people are counting on them. Around twenty shops that you will find in the Broadwalk Shopping Centre aren’t happy to hear that the bingo hall might close down because it will certainly affect them as well.
